One of the most important decisions you’ll make is whether to hire legal counsel. A divorce attorney is more than a legal advisor — they are your voice in negotiations and court, your strategist, and your advocate.

Look for someone who listens, communicates clearly, and prioritizes your best interests. You’ll want a lawyer who responds promptly, understands your concerns, and gives practical advice tailored to your situation. These tools can help you make that decision:

Working with Your Attorney

If you decide to retain an attorney, understanding how to work efficiently with them can save time, money, and stress. Use the resources below to prepare for your first meetings:

Our Intake Process: What to Expect

Here’s how we welcome new clients to Sullivan Law & Associates:

1. Initial Intake Call

You’ll speak with our non-attorney Intake Specialist, who will gather basic information about your case. You may also complete our Initial Intake Form.

2. Consultation with an Attorney

If you decide to move forward, we’ll schedule a paid consultation with one of our seasoned family law attorneys. This meeting can take place by phone, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or in person at your convenience.

3. Engagement and Retainer Agreement

If you choose to retain us, we will send you a retention agreement via email as soon as possible. Our minimum retainer ranges between $7,500 to $10,000, and we bill against that amount. If you have questions, you’re welcome to reach out to your attorney or our Client Relations Manager.

4. Begin Work on Your Case

Once your signed agreement and payment are received, we’ll begin preparing documents and gathering information. Use these tools to stay organized:
